Ecosytem of women
A few days ago, out of sheer boredom, I went to pick up my little brother from school. FPS. Maila-burger school. Teeming outside were WOMEN. Lots of them. And so fake they made me want to either vomit or kill myself for fear that I'd grow up to be one of them. Like the title says, they were like this ecosystem where the dominant species were women, attracted to each other by lieu of their similar clothes and similar over-done makeup or repulsed if one of them turned up looking plain. What made them flourish? gossip. Talking in fake accents. Pretending to be all western and high-class. Seriously. Somebody needs a reality check. Bleagh.

Food for cynics?
I had a fit of patriotism plus social awareness a few minutes ago so I went reading today's dawn online, and stumbled across a pretty hilarious article in which dear Nawaz offers his esteemed advice to President Zardari (if only there was some cyberspace pathway to project sarcasm in that) on governance. I quote "Prime Minister Gilani in his speech in the National Assembly on Nov 3 had remarked that he would welcome suggestions and recommendations from those who had misgivings about the government`s commitment to good governance. It is in the spirit of his offer that I want to share some of my thoughts with you, as I have done in the past with all sincerity" Yeah, that's what "Mr. Sharif" says in his letter. Seriously, the name "Nawaz Sharif" in itself is an oxymoron. Now I'm wondering if this new letter will be fresh fodder for the cynics who've come to believe Pakistani politics are doomed or maybe an extra point for the ones who argue there's still hope. Either way, I just think it's funny.

Star Wars Hybrid
welwitschia merabilis. Yes, it's a plant. That thing is actually alive somewhere on this planet. Pretty cool isn't it. Botany can be so much more interesting if those droning, learned-everything-by-heart people were replaced with someone slightly more human. Happy plant viewing ;)

Living through history
Karachi. Pakistan's biggest metropolis with over 16 million residents and one of the most dangerous cities in South Asia. You'd think we were all jaded survivors by now, but I happen to be among the lucky, clueless ones. Agitation like this is nothing new: zia, benazir...just recall their times and its history's repeating itself. Which means one day people will write about these events and we're actually living through history. Its so surprisingly uneventful. Which is sad because in the future someone like me will write a history of something which someone in his/her position won't even dream of experiencing. And the actual biographies are the ones nobody sets up as a syllabus. Which is sad.

Butterfly in the spider's web
Smile, Smile,
Ye Goddess of Love,
Too readily did I see thy charms,
Thy follies from the eye are hid,
O, thoughtless youth,
Tell me who,
Will take the blame of hearts astray?
You or me or some divine?
Perhaps winged Eros,
Whose fabled charms,
Transcend the worlds of myths of old,
Saw fit to fire the deadly shafts,
One the poison,
One the cure,
Those dualities,
They landed true,
O sweet archer!
With mirth dance thy wine-touched eyes,
For your poison is the only one,
Whose coming makes the heart rejoice,
No antidotes can I unearth,
Laugh great Goddess!
Your twilight paths,
Why must they be trod,
By only us,
Whose blood runs thick with Cupid’s charms?
Too long has run this litany,
The world must only read this far,
But one last thing I dare to ask,
The butterfly in the spider’s web,
O heartless lover,
Which is you and which is me?
Ye Goddess of Love,
Too readily did I see thy charms,
Thy follies from the eye are hid,
O, thoughtless youth,
Tell me who,
Will take the blame of hearts astray?

Once again we're pedaling toward the future that has just begun
With our feelings carved into our hearts
We can still grab it if we reach out our hands
The dream we had forgotten about is right there
All that time we couldn't fly, so we kept looking up at the sky
Unable to do anything and with no destination, we just kept searching
We just spent all our time not knowing what to do
Sleepless nights kept piling up
I know the day will come when we'll reach
The other side of the today we were so scared of
Once again we're pedaling toward the future that has just begun
With our feelings carved into our hearts
We can still grab it if we reach out our hands
The dream we had forgotten about is right there
We couldn't see the things we were certain of, and asked after them every night
We just pushed forward, blind to our surroundings and absorbed in running
The voice silenced by the rain starting to fall
I'll carve it into my heart so I won't forget it
Together with these feelings surging forth
I know the day will come when I'll reach you
Once again we're running toward the future
The dream we've created will surely be just as we imagined it
Don't give up! If it's already enough to make you regret
The tomorrow we've always believed in is right there
I had almost lost sight of it
Beyond "the dream I set my wishes on" once again
Even the anxieties I had back then
Will never go to waste - I've been waiting, because...
We have to crouch down lower before we can jump up higher
So please, give me a chance now once again
Yeah, over and over, again and again
Once again we're pedaling toward the future that has just begun
With our feelings carved into our hearts
We can still grab it if we reach out our hands
The dream we had forgotten about is right there
Stand up!! We're running toward the future

Letters to myself
When I was younger, I used to write letters to myself. I kid you not, I'd write them and date them two years in the future. So I read one the other day and I was surprised because I've honestly changed so much. I was pretty idealistic-no wait, I still am. though a little realistically so...what an oxymoron: realistically idealistic. Anyway, back to the letters. 2 years ago I was all set to be the next Einstein...big scientific ambitions. Zoom on to the present and the science ambitions are still there but I'm 10 times lazier and more liable to get distracted by a random hot guy walking by XD So, crazy as it sounds, writing letters to myself is a pretty good past-time....who knows when I'll need them to make me laugh <3

Interesting Question
So the SITSahood asked why I blog. And it's actually a pretty fan-girlish reason because I just wanted to upload download links for the japanese and korean songs and movies which are so hard to find and which I've managed to track down. Other than that I think it's about self-actualization, disovering myself and blah blah blah. Pretty much why I need to develop my own drawing style.

This is so out of proportion
This just left me wondering exactly how much hate a person can store before their personality gets twisted beyond reason. Is it like a proportionality thing...oh my god, i'm quoting physics in my blog. I think I need to go sleep. Ciao ^.^
P.S. go flag that video

Basic Rights?
Is there no limit to the amount of bullshit politicians can spout forth? Take a look: Sialkot Murders justified
Ok, so maybe they were thieves....that doesn't take away their right to a trial. They should be given the benefit of doubt. And it in no way justifies them being BEATEN to death. Imagine that: thwack! crack! phut! thwack! thwack! Eeek.

Extremism Much
That illustrious comment is located outside the Dove World Outreach Center, a Church in Florida. What I fail to understand is how Muslims can be referred to as "extremists" and "zealots" when signs like this and videos like this Kill the Ground Zero Mosque are being displayed the world over. I have yet to see a mosque which displays a sign insulting Christianity or Judaism. A quote from Terry Jones, the Pastor of the above-mentioned church:
"It is a violent and oppressive religion that is trying to masquerade itself as a religion of peace, seeking to deceive our society," the church said. "Islam is a lie based upon lies and deceptions and fear. In Muslim countries, if you preach the gospel or convert to Christianity – you will be killed. That is the type of religion it is."
If you doubt me, go read this article Ground Zero Mosque fuels Islamophobia
As anyone living in Pakistan can testify, that's a bunch of lies. I've BEEN to a mass, out of plain curiosity because I studied in a Convent school and nobody came and shot down the monks or nuns there. I don't remember any Muslim condemning me for going there. Sure, there are countries like Afghanistan where fundamentalism is taken to a whole new level, but that's not Islam people. That's just some uneducated people twisting Islamic laws to serve their own means.
Books like the one advertised on this site 10 reasons to burn a koran are plain bullshit. It just shows how little these so-called scholars know of Islam.

Not so invincible
When I was younger, I had books which proclaimed the greatness of Pakistan; the bravery of its soldiers; the invulnerability of its army; the loyalty of its people. And those words used to make my heart swell with pride each time I read them. Then came a cruel reality check in the form of Pakistan Studies, and it was like an actual physical blow. Where was the victory of the 1965 war which we were so proud of? Certainly not in Ayub Khan's capitulation to the Tashkent Declaration. What kind of army kills the intellectuals of its own people as ours did in Bangladesh? Where would Sindh have stood if Zulfikar Ali Bhutto hadn't threatened the president? I acclaim our shaheed heroes; I admire the leaders of our past and hope for the future; I'm still proud to be a Pakistani; all my ambitions and talents are still for Pakistan, but for me 14 August no longer has the appeal it did years ago. And fortunately or unfortunately, I know a sizeable number who'd agree with me.

Raindrops on the roof
Rain in our part of the world is a rarity with us getting barely 7 days of rain a year. But it was after today's torrential shower stopped that I realized exactly how soothing the sound of rain is. You can be in the dusty, noisy center of your city and yet the sound of the rain against the window, the haze it casts on the world has an almost euphoric effect. For beauty so simple and yet so entrancing, I can only marvel and praise Allah, and hope that someday I'm skilled enough with a paintbrush to be able to render it on paper.

Oriental Mania
Yes, that's just so original-starting the first entry with oriental mania. But I have an excuse, this is merely an introductory, let-me-get-used to blogging blog, because I have never blogged before in my life. These blogs of mine are dedicated to all things asian and eastern: anime, manga, art, culture, history, food, music...wait...I better not go over-board XD I'll actually have to do a lotta research but, its au revoir for now! Until next time!
